Questions for Your Contractor


The independent dealers and contractors we refer are all prescreened to meet 15-separate criteria and must maintain high standards. To make it easier to choose the best one for your project, use this checklist to compare the customer service and bids you receive.

Did the dealer or contractor:


Arrive on time?
Act in a professional manner?
Ask you about pre-existing problems (e.g., condensation, exceptionally cool or warm areas of your home, venting)?
Suggest solutions to pre-existing problems and include them in the estimate?
Calculate heat gain/loss, hot water needs, space heating needs?
Verify correct sizing of ductwork for heating/cooling systems?
Check wiring and fuel line routes for heating/cooling systems?
Check venting options for gas heating, cooling, and water heating systems?
Explain options such as programmable thermostats, remote controls for gas fireplaces, etc.?
Explain the maintenance requirements of the system you're buying?
Offer a service contract?
Describe exactly what the installation work will involve (i.e., disruptions to everyday activities)?
Provide a detailed, written estimate of work to be performed?
Explain his or her company's service procedures and availability?
